Teachers

The teachers we work with are all highly qualified and come with additional specialisations in yoga for different health conditions. We are committed to broadening the diversity of yoga teachers to reflect the community we serve and welcome BAME, disabled and LGBT teachers to apply to become part of our teaching community. We will be offering subsidised teacher training courses to help teachers get the necessary training to bring the health benefits of yoga to a wider community.

If you are a yoga teacher or yoga therapist with specialist skills working with health conditions and would like to join our team, please send cv and covering letter to info@theyogaforlifeproject.co.uk

Meet The Team

CLAIRE WHALLEY

Founder and Director

It was as a mother of young children with a full-time, job in television that I started to realize the extraordinary health benefits of yoga. In yoga I found a tool which was always available to me — whether in the yoga class or outside — to energize, bring positivity where there was negativity, to calm anxiety and stress and to help with insomnia. I have found that it has also been an invaluable help while transitioning through the menopause. Through different yoga postures, breath work, meditation and mindfulness, yoga helped me re-evaluate my life and realize how important the relationship between body and mind is, and to focus on the things that matter most.

Having practiced yoga for 30 years, I decided to train as a teacher so that I could share the life-enhancing benefits of yoga. Since qualifying with The Yoga Campus, London, I have taken many specialist therapeutic yoga trainings and have completed over 500 hours of training. I have taken yoga into cancer recovery, palliative care, mental health and teach yoga to the local communities of Bethnal Green and Finsbury Park as well as working one-to-one, and run therapeutic yoga retreats in the UK and overseas. The Yoga for Life Project is the culmination of this - my yoga journey thus far.

SALLY RAMSDEN

Development Officer

I bring 20 years experience in the Third Sector, including in programme development and management, partnership working, fundraising, communications, capacity building, training, facilitation, community engagement and outreach.

As founder director of Reachability, an Oxford based social enterprise specialising in participatory training, facilitation and capacity building I designed and obtained funding for a number of community development and capacity building programmes.

More recently, as a yoga teacher, under my independent community well-being organisation Natural Connection I have forged a key partnership with Globe Community Project (GCP) and Praxis in order to deliver an innovative pilot teaching English as a Second Language through yoga with refugee and migrant women. I also work closely with Sustain on age inclusion for volunteers in community gardens and food growing spaces across London.

ALICE HARPER

Project Coordinator

It was during a very difficult time in my life that I found yoga and came to see its transformative qualities. Though The Yoga for Life Project I hope that we can help people who are struggling to deal with physical and mental health issues and give them the tools to take control of their own health. I have been working at The Yoga for life Project since it’s conception, and I truly believe in the goals and aspirations of what we are trying to achieve.

PUCK OLIEMANS

Social Media Producer

When I was 14, I started doing yoga and fell in love with it. I experienced how beneficial yoga could be for my physical and mental health while growing up. As a Psychology of Fashion student, I have developed an interest in Health Psychology and holistic approaches to health. Moreover, I have experience in working in fashion, social media and PR. After moving to London, I became one of Claire’s students and heard about TYFLP. I decided to join the project as I strongly believe in the cause and want to share the benefits of yoga with as many people as possible.

CONSTANZA HOLA

Social Media Adviser

I started practicing yoga by accident. I went to the gym, but the class I aimed to attend was fully booked. It was snowing and as I’m not particularly keen to go to the gym, I thought of going back to bed. Then I saw a yoga centre and stepped in. It was there where I met Claire and learnt from her that yoga is a way of healing. A tool to keep our minds and bodies healthy and balanced. It helped me to go through very hard times, that’s why I truly believe The Yoga For Life Project is an amazing opportunity to use yoga as a healer. Not from a holistic conception, but from a practical medical point of view, discovering its therapeutic benefits. I joined TYFLP team as Social Media Adviser to help spread the word about its work as far and loud as possible.
